About Us

Our Story

Hope for the Mourning was created by Cory and Heather Wessman in 2009 following the sudden death of their oldest son, Micah at 9 months old. They soon met and befriended other grieving parents and realized the vital role relationships play in healing from tragedy. Fellow grieving parents are able to offer support and encouragement to one another that is unique to those who have lost a child. We offer Biblical grief resources through care packages, grief mentoring and grief group opportunities.

If you are grieving or love someone who has lost their child, please don’t hesitate to reach out for help, guidance and community. You are not alone, you are loved, you will get through this day, let us journey with you.

Our Mission is to provide hope in Jesus Christ to parents who have experienced the death of an infant or child through personal relationships and practical support.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 34:18

Our Board of Directors are all grieving parents themselves.
Able and willing to listen, understand and walk beside you in your grief journey
as those who have been where you are.

Parent Testimonials

“I have been blessed with the love from close friends and family, but having the ability to communicate with someone of faith who has also gone through a similar and unimaginable loss has been extremely helpful in my grieving process.”

Belinda, mom of Mirabelle

“Early in our grief, other parents who had lost children came around us. Hope for the Mourning offered support, love and a safe space for us to process our loss. We experienced the love of Jesus through those who had once been in our shoes, who offered us help to get through those early days and reminded us of the hope we have in Christ. Hope for today and hope for eternity.”
